‘New Moon’ Makes ‘Guinness World Records’ 2011

From Twilight Examiner – Amanda Bell

The Twilight Saga: New Moon has become a part of Guinness World Records 2011 for its successes in the box office.

Reports MTV, “‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ earned a place in the book for having the Highest Opening-Day Gross, $72.7 million, beating previous record holder, ‘The Dark Knight.'”

The Twilight Saga: New Moon also has number one opening day and single day gross totals as well as the biggest midnight opening.

Each year, the Guinness World Records book chronicles the biggest, smallest, longest, and shortest records associated with nearly every conceivable aspect of the world, but being placed in the text is a very coveted feat, so it’s a pretty big deal that New Moon made this year’s cut.

The Guinness World Records book was released on Tuesday, September 14th.

Last year, both Twilight and its director, Catherine Hardwicke, were placed in the 2010 edition for “Highest-Grossing Movie by a Female Director.”

Rob & Taylor Talk Love & More With The Chicago Tribune

LOS ANGELES — Ask many a teenage girl to which team are they most loyal and it’s unlikely you’ll hear about the Blackhawks, White Sox, Bears or Cubs. You’ll probably get an earful about “hits” of a different kind from the new movie “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” You’re Team Edward if you love the moody vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson. Team Jacob is for fans of the usually shirtless, chiseled abs of Taylor Lautner’s werewolf persona, Jacob Black.

Recently, I was a guest of Summit Entertainment in Los Angeles, talking with both actors, who are now on their third installment of fang-filled love tug of war.

You both have been through three different directors on these movie adaptations. What’s been the difference for you?

Robert Pattinson: I don’t know necessarily if it shows in the final film, but the difference between Chris Weitz (“New Moon” director) and David Slade (“Eclipse” director) is dramatic. Chris saw the first one and just thought that he wanted to follow along the road. David wanted to do it completely different from the first two. It all felt so fresh right from the first day. Edward’s movement and such, from every single part of the performance, it just really shook it up a little bit.

Taylor Lautner: Well, Jacob gets a little more frustrated and a little heated in this one. It was very emotional for me. There are a lot of emotional scenes between Jacob and Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) and Jacob and Edward. He becomes very close to Bella, there’s the much-talked-about kissing scene — but also all of the fighting scenes, so it was good … it was much more dramatically challenging.

And what about that kissing scene with Kristen? I know that you’re both very good friends. That has to be a little awkward.

TL: We are very close friends, but I wouldn’t say it was awkward. After we finished a take of the kissing scene that was kind of steamy, there would be a moment of silence and then we’d look at each other and she’d go, “Ewww, we just kissed … weird.” And then we had to do it again and again. After a while, it got kind of mechanical.

In the movie, your characters are both in love with Bella and in hot pursuit of her interests. She doesn’t know which way to turn and even is at the core of the battle that breaks out in this film. In real life, could you be in a relationship that was so difficult to have?

RP: Oh, no way. I’m terrible at that. I can’t even deal with people shouting at each other. The slightest bit of conflict and I’m gone immediately. It’s one of the challenges of this movie for me. It’s balancing the emotional aspects with the physical demands. Occasionally, there come moments where you have to portray a big story within a fight scene and it does become quite complicated.

MTV Movie Awards: Rob Pattinson Steals the Show and a Kiss From Kristen

As Team Edward gears up to claim victory over Team Jacob this month when The Twilight Saga: Eclipse finally hits theaters, Twihards let it be known that they’re not done celebrating the splendor that was New Moon yet.

The vampirific sequel was named Best Movie at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday and saw its reach extend into five categories overall, more proof that the young’uns who vote for such things don’t give two hoots what critics say, they just want their Ed TV.

And it’s ironic that there’s now an award for Best WTF Moment, considering the entire telecast itself was, in fact, a chain of WTF moments. Some were excruciatingly bad (A for effort, host Aziz Ansari) but, happily, many ranged from quite funny to downright hilarious.

First of all, perhaps sensing cinematic blood in the water once again, Robert Pattinson and his smokin’ short ‘do had a very dominant night.

The British heartthrob took home a leading three gilded buckets of popcorn, including the first-ever bucket for Global Superstar, a fans’ choice award for which he beat out both of his Twilight cosuperstars as well as Zac Efron and Johnny Depp.

Pattinson also won for Best Male Performance, after which he endearingly thanked his parents for conceiving him and Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, “who I owe a lot now, like everything.”

Kristen Stewart, winner for Best Female Performance for New Moon, gave one of her signature nonspeeches, first asking the stars of Grown Ups, who presented her with the award, if they “want to do this for me?”

“Thank you so much. I guess Twilight is really awesome, and I agree. Whoo!” she gave a thumbs-up. [Director] Chris Weitz, I haven’t talked to him in awhile. How cool is this, right? I’m going to peace out and thank you so much.”

Pattinson, sitting with his knees tucked under his chin, looked positively dazzled the entire time, however. And that must have stirred his inner mischief-maker because, when he and Stewart made their second trip in as many years to the podium to accept the popcorn for Best Kiss, he didn’t let his costar get away with her usual “it takes a lot of smoke and mirrors to make us look good kissing,” and planted one on her anyway when her guard was down.

Stewart somehow managed not to spontaneously combust.

2010 MTV Movie Awards: Can anyone beat New Moon’?

2010 MTV Movie Awards: Can anyone beat ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’?

Who will you vote for?

After “Twilight” dominated last year’s MTV Movie Awards will the sequel, “New Moon,” repeat as champ or will it be overwhelmed by the mammoth popularity of “Avatar”?  And what happens when Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson are all in the same category?  Plus, can Betty White, SAG lifetime achievement award aside, win her first award since her amazing comeback began with “The Proposal”?

The 2010 MTV Movie Awards won’t occur until Sunday, June 6, but we’ve analyzed the races and have predicted winners, possible upsets and more.  Click on the tabs above to find out who will win and share your own thoughts below.

Best Kiss

· Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson – The Twilight Saga: New Moon
· Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning – The Runaways
· Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds – The Proposal
· Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner – Valentine’s Day
· Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington – Avatar

Who will win:
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
Who should win: Kristen Stewart and  Dakota Fanning
Upset: Swift/Lautner and Stewart/Fanning could upset, but it’s hard to imagine the combined “New Moon” power of Stewart/Pattinson losing out.

Best Male Performance

· Channing Tatum – Dear John
· Daniel Radcliffe – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
· Robert Pattinson – The Twilight Saga: New Moon
· Taylor Lautner – The Twilight Saga: New Moon
· Zac Efron – 17 Again

Who will win:
Taylor Lautner
Who should win: Um….pass?
Upset: It’s clearly between Pattinson and Lautner here, but Efron won last year for “High School Musical 3” and could easily surprise again for “17 Again.

Best Movie

[Note: voting for this award will be open throughout the awards ceremony.]

· Alice In Wonderland – Director: Tim Burton, Producers: Suzanne Todd, Jennifer Todd, Joe Roth and Richard D. Zanuck
· Avatar – Director: James Cameron, Producers: James Cameron and Jon Landau
· Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – Director: David Yates, Producers: David Heyman and David Barron
· The Hangover – Director: Todd Phillips, Producers: Todd Phillips and Dan Goldberg
· The Twilight Saga: New Moon – Director: Chris Weitz, Producers: Wyck Godfrey and Karen Rosenfelt

Who will win: “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”
Who should win: “Avatar”
Upset: The highest grossing movie in history winning wouldn’t exactly be an upset, but “New Moon’s” fanbase is so passionate and much bigger than it was after “Twilight” which already won last year.  Frankly, it would be stunning to everyone involved in the show, MTV, the media, Summit and most viewers if “New Moon” lost.
